The reason we ask for donations is because we actually have some expenses we'd like to cover and keep a safe reserve. The website which includes the chat interface located on the 'Chat' page is maintained solely by the webmaster at this point. The webmaster is the only one who maintains the entire site, keeps things updated and troubleshoots events on the chat channel and maintains the channel bot known as "Orb_Bot".
We currently have advertising on parts of the website but it's not generating enough money to pay the expenses. So, we're trying to find good people to donate and give us a way of securing funds to keep the website open and keep it accessible for everyone.
